Written by the great fourteenth-century Arab scholar Ibn Khaldûn (d. 1406), this monumental work laid down the foundations of several fields of knowledge, including philosophy of history, sociology, ethnography, and economics. The first complete English translation, by the eminent Islamicist and interpreter of Arabic literature Franz Rosenthal, was published in three volumes in 1958 as part of the Bollingen Series and received immediate acclaim in America and abroad. A one-volume abridged version of Rosenthal's masterful translation was first published in 1969.
This new edition of the abridged version, with the addition of a key section of Rosenthal's own introduction to the three-volume edition, and with a new introduction by Bruce B. Very educational and enlightening!!

What an educational and enlightening historical work. It completely grabbed my attention from the moment I started reading it. I was also completely blown away at the depth of knowledge and philosophical subject matter that was presented. The core principles really make you think and reflect. It definitely gives you a different perspective and outlook about life and what is important. I am a complete history buff and get really excited when I stumble across a great work such as this. If you are at all intellectual or are a fan of historical philosophy... then do yourself a favor and get this book. I give it 5 big stars!

Impressive

There are a few books that every history/philosophy lover should have in their resources. Muqaddimah is definitely one of them. I believe that history is nothing more than exhibitions of perspective. I am glad I was introduced to this "intorduction" book and I will definitely be sharing with others. It is an impressive body of work and a great reference book. This book begs you to take a look at the dichotomy of East and West perspectives. I think that this book came help to open the door to more dialog on east and west perspectives.

Very poor job!

There is a reason this Kindle book is so inexpensive. The formating is missing and as a prior review mentions it's almost unreadable. Amazon should have some quality control to screen out these sellers. Very poor job!
