Undivine, divine, or neither?

Any attentive reader of The Divine Comedy can tell that it is a fusion of narrative (a "very good story") and theology. The theology, especially in the Paradiso, is generally unsympathetic to modern readers, but it cannot be waved away through some process of "detheologizing." In the end, after much tedious close reading, Barolini is compelled to concede the poem's duality: narrative and theology are fused.
Here idea that terza rima parallels DNA is curious, almost laughable.
The title is intriguing, but the interest stops largely there. This book is very academic and almost unreadable because of its arcane critical language informed by concepts fashionable at the time of writing, but which now seem dated. The appendix on the beginning and ending of the cantos is useful, though.
